Church membership is not in the Bible--it's all over the Bible.
Imagine you were traveling in a foreign country and you lost your passport. Where do you go to prove that you are a citizen of the United States? The embassy. The embassy provides confirmation of your citizenship. The U.S. embassy does not make you an American citizen; it uses its resources to confirm you are.
Church membership is sorta like that. The local church provides the environment to oversee a Christian's discipleship and affirm their membership in the body of Christ.
Jonathan Lehman defines church membership as "a formal relationship between a Church and a Christian characterized by the church’s affirmation and oversight of a Christian’s discipleship and the Christian’s submission to living out his or her discipleship in the care of the church."
At CornerstonePiqua, church membership is encouraged, but not required. Membership provides the discipleship pathway through which we serve one another, grow in Christlikeness, and serve God’s redemptive purposes in the community.
At CornerstonePiqua, membership classes are held twice per year, in the Spring and Fall.
